Editorial policy
Modern Music Journal aims to make music writing clear, careful and worth returning to. We explain our reasoning, distinguish fact from interpretation and correct errors when we find them.
Accuracy and context
We check factual claims against appropriate sources and take care with names, dates, terminology and historical context. Where a point is uncertain or interpretations differ, we say so rather than presenting one reading as settled fact.
Independence and labels
Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers, not to promise favourable coverage. Any sponsored or partner material is clearly labelled so readers can tell it apart from independent editorial content.
Corrections
If you spot a factual error or unclear passage, contact us with the relevant article and detail. We review correction requests and update published material when a change is warranted, making significant corrections clear to readers.
Images and illustrations
Illustrations may be commissioned, licensed, created for an article or generated with AI. When an illustration is AI-generated, we identify it as such; images are not presented as documentary evidence unless they are being used that way and accurately described.
Listening is a way of noticing
A little attention can open up a whole piece of music. We make room for clear explanations, useful comparisons and questions worth carrying into your next listen.
